How to Lower Blinds with 3 Strings? (Read This First!)

Lowering blinds seems like a very easy task. But there are many technical details involved here. The process may get a little confusing when there are three strings involved.

So we have designed this article to help you figure out how to lower blinds with 3 strings. Read ahead to learn more about it.

Why do blinds have three strings?

Blinds have a very crucial function in protecting our home from sunlight and exposure and ensuring the privacy of our home. While some blinds are very easy to use, others can be a bit challenging.

People who use blinds with 3 strings often seem to be complaining about it being challenging. So it naturally raises the question: why do blinds have three strings.

One string in the window blind is used to lift the cord. This is used to raise and lower the blinds. The other two strings are used to control the blinds; that is, they are used as tilt control strings.

The other two strings will help you control the angle of the louvers. This is the reason why blinds have three strings.

How To Lower Blinds With 3 Strings?

Operate the three strings as though they are one in order to lower blinds with 3 strings. Make sure to hold all the strings at once in your hand. Pull them together to one side; if it doesn’t work, pull them to the other side. The blinds should lower when you pull them all to one side.

Operating the blinds that have 3 strings can be a little challenging for some people. There are some window blinds that are very easy to operate. However, most window blinds come with three strings.

Each string has a very crucial function. One string is designed to lift the cord of the blind. That is, this string will help you raise and lower the blind.

And the other two strings are tasked with controlling the tilt angle of the blind. So you can control the louver angle with these other two strings.

Many people seem to have a hard time controlling the three strings at once. But rest assured that it will get quite easy eventually. Let’s take a look at how to lower blinds with 3 strings:

Locate the strings:

While it seems like a no-brainer, locating all three strings is a task in itself. You should find one string on the left side, one in the middle, and the other on the right side of the string.

Hold the three strings at once:

You will have to gather all three strings and hold them in your hand at once. This is how the three strings will operate. You should not use them separately, otherwise, it will be difficult to lower the blind.

While you do this, make sure not to pull on any string too strongly. Otherwise, you may end up making the process even more difficult by messing up the levels of the blind.

So make sure that the strings are at their initial level while you gather them together.

Pull the strings, all at once:

Now that you have gathered all the strings together, pull them gently. Make sure to pull them all at once.

First, pull them to the left. And if it does not work, pull them to the right. There is no particular direction in which all the blinds work. You will have to figure that out through the process.

But the blinds should lower when you pull all the strings to one side at once and release them.

How does a 3 string blind work?

Venetian blinds generally have three strings to operate the blind. One string is used for pulling the blind up and down. The other two are for tilting the blinds left and right. This is how a 3 string blind works.

These blinds are made of stacked slats. These slats are typically parallel to each other. Generally, the three sets of strings run through each of these slats.

The function of the three strings is defined: each of them has a particular task. The string that is placed in the middle is used to raise and lower the blind. And the other two strings, one on each side of the blinds, will form a ladder with the slats. That is, you can control the direction of the slats with the strings placed on the left and right sides of the blinds.

And when you pull them all together to one side, you will be able to lower the blinds. In addition, if you turn the rod, you will be able to tilt the slats.

When you lift the blind completely up, you will be able to welcome light into your room. Again, if you make all the slats perpendicular, you will be able to allow light to pass as well.

And once you lower the blind as well as shut off the slats, you will be able to achieve privacy in the room. This is how 3 string blind works.

Why won’t my blinds go down?

It is a very common problem with blinds, that you will not be able to lower the blinds. Here are some of the most common reasons why your blinds will not go down:

Cord lock malfunction:

It might be because the cord locks on the blinds are acting up. It is one of the most common issues that you will face with a blind.

It is highly likely that the string that pulls the blinds up or down got stuck somewhere. Here’s how you can solve this issue:

Solution:

Take the string that raises or lowers the blinds. Now draw it upward. Continue to draw until the cord is level with the headrail of the blinds. Now give it a small tug. This is likely to release the lock in the cord.

The cord lock in the headrail is acting up:

If the first solution does not work, move on to this next step. Another issue might be that the cord lock in the headrail is malfunctioning.

Solution:

To fix this, you will first have to identify the cord lock system that is placed within the header rail. You will be able to identify it easily because the cords usually run through this rail. There should be a pin inside this mechanism.

Use a flat-head screwdriver and move the pin perpendicular to the rail. Make sure not to move the cords in the process. Now push the pin inside the rail and release the cords. The blinds should lower now.

What type of blinds are best for your home?

Blinds are an essential part of your home decor because they are responsible for ensuring the privacy of your home. You will also be able to save a lot of energy if you can choose the right blind that allows sufficient natural light inside your home.

There are several kinds of blinds available in the current market. Let’s take a look at what type of blinds are best for your home:

Vertical blinds:

As the name suggests, vertical blinds are blinds that host a series of vertical slats that will hang from the headrail.

You can rotate the slats or pull them together to lower or raise the blinds. It is very easy to filter light in your room using these blinds.

You can use these blinds to cover the sliding doors between your living room and kitchen or balcony. These blinds are a great choice for controlling light inside your home.

Venetian blinds:

Venetian blinds originated in Persia, contrary to the popular belief that they are from Venice. These blinds feature a series of stacked slats that are about two inches in width.

The slats are placed horizontally and are parallel to each other. These slats are connected and controlled through cords or strings. It is rather easy to operate these blinds and you will be able to control

Mini blinds:

Mini blinds are much like Venetian blinds, only thinner and smaller. Their slats are typically only about an inch wide. These blinds are generally made of aluminum, which makes them rather easy to clean and wash.

Final thoughts
