How Much Does a Pallet of Bricks Weigh? (Answered)

The main components of any construction project are strong and durable bricks. These building blocks are the foundation of construction and need to be firm and robust. The selection of bricks depends on their material and quality.

How much does a pallet of bricks weigh?

A standard pallet of bricks weighs more or less 2430 pounds or 1102.229 kg. These pallets have five layers of bricks in them. Each layer consists of approximately 113 bricks. And the weight of each brick is 4.3 pounds or 1.95 kg on average. There can be heavier pallets as well.

Weigh of some sorts of bricks are discussed below –

Pallet of standard solid paver bricks:

Paver bricks differ from regular bricks. They are also known as face bricks. The strength and durability of these bricks are immense, and they do not easily break under stress.

The system of interlocking these bricks are often in-built in them by some manufacturers. These bricks show symptoms of erosion over time.

There are different types of solid paver bricks. The paver bricks with a thickness of 1 inch weigh 10 lbs per square foot. Rubber paver bricks are light in weight. They weigh around 3 lbs. The stone pavers are heavy, and they weigh about 12 lbs to 14 lbs.

A pallet of standard solid paver bricks weighs around 3682 pounds.

Pallet of hollow bricks:

Hollow bricks are the product of recycled materials. These bricks are versatile and can be used for many purposes.

You can use it for heavy works and light works. Depending upon the strength and structure of these bricks, you have to choose the quality of the brick you need.

The weight of a pallet of standard hollow bricks is 28 pounds. In this pallet, there are 96 bricks.

Pallet of red clay bricks:

Red clay bricks are bricks made of clay. The components of these bricks include iron oxide, silica, magnesia, alumina, etc.

The weight of standard red clay brick is around 4.3 lbs. And different types and sizes of pallets are available for these bricks.

The weight of a red clay pallet containing 113 bricks is 486 lbs. This weight increases with the increase in the size of the pallet. A pallet with 500 or more bricks will weigh more.

Pallet of 500 engineering bricks:

Regular bricks are durable and sturdy. For conditions of high usage and exposure to stress is, engineering bricks are in use there. For the construction of bridges, tunnels, highways, engineering bricks are ideal for use.

These bricks are on average 4.5 pounds in weight. So, a pallet of 500 engineering bricks might weigh somewhat more than 2250 pounds.

How much does a brick weigh?

Bricks weigh different depending upon their size and material. Some bricks weigh more than others due to the presence of heavier materials in them.

Cement or Concrete brick:

Cement or concrete bricks are sturdy and durable. Production of these bricks includes cement and its various aggregates mixtures. These ingredients are put together in a mold for curating. You can also put colors on these bricks to make them look beautiful.

They come in different sizes and weigh 6 lbs to 8.25 lbs.

Clay brick:

Clay bricks are most common for many purposes. The red clay bricks are the standard ones that come in 8’’ by 2.25’’ by 4’’. And these bricks weigh around 5 lbs on average. That is, clay brick has 2.27 kilograms of sand, alumina, and lime mixture in it.

Engineering brick:

Engineering bricks are the more durable ones that can absorb more water and compression. They are in use for heavy construction and construction of tunnels and bridges. These bricks weigh around  4.5lbs to 7 lbs, depending on the manufacturer.

How to transport a pallet of bricks?

Transporting a pallet of bricks is tough work as it is heavy. A pallet of bricks can be transported using a forklift. This engine makes the task easy and fast.

Steps to transport a pallet of bricks are:

Lower the fork:

First, lower the forklift’s fork and drive it to the place of loading bricks.

Load the bricks:

Load the bricks into the brick pavers for easy transportation and balance.

Keep the level same:

Lowering the fork at the same level as the lower end of the brick pavers makes it easy to load the bricks.

Load and lift:

Load the brick paver into the fork and lift it.

Not more than necessary:

The brick pavers are heavy. So, do not lift it more than necessary in the fork.

Lift it near:

If you have to cross an obstacle and lift the fork, try to lift it only near it to avoid tipping over the bricks.

Ride to the destination:

Then ride to the destination, and turn off the forklift by lowering the fork.

Use a pallet jack:

After that, use a pallet jack to unload the brick paver from the fork.

Help of another person:

Often, the pallet jack is not easy to push into the paver. In that case, take the help of another person to put strength together and perform the task.

Unload:

At last, you can unload the bricks from the pallet using your hands.

It is impossible to carry each brick manually. Thus forklifts make it easy to transport these pallets of bricks to destinations of heavy construction.

How to move a pallet of bricks without a forklift?

Forklifts are in use in industrial and heavy construction sites for the transportation of bricks. But, small facilities with small spaces use an alternative method to transport bricks from one place to another.

Portable stackers:

Battery run portable stackers are ideal for small places or spaces. It can carry up to 300 lbs to 350 lbs, and these are easy to use as well.

Mason’s wheelbarrow:

Any person alone can use a mason’s wheelbarrow and move pallets of bricks from one place to another. Use the wheelbarrow to pull the palate towards you. The next task is of pushing and moving it to the place of unloading the bricks.

Roller crowbar:

This instrument is an alternative for pallet jacks. It can move smaller pallets of bricks. The lower of the pallet fixes to a long and flat but wide plate or bar made of metal. This task is easy if you use a roller handle. Then the pallet slides after you lift the roller a further bit.

Manually operated stackers:

These stackers can carry up to one thousand pounds of bricks. These come in two options of platforms, as well as forks. You have to use your foot to pump this lift.

Rope and lever:

Slipknot the rope’s end to the brick pallet. Then tie the pallet in a criss-cross manner from below and up the pallet. Do it sideways as well. Make sure the ropes are firm and not loosely tied.

Now, instead of lifting the lever, push it down the other side, and it will slide the pallet, then you can also wheel it to the location.

How many bricks come in a pallet?

The weight of a standard brick is around 4 pounds. And the length is approximately eight inches, and the width is two and a half inches. The general size of a brick pallet ranges from 40 inches to 50 inches. It is the surface area of the pallet.

You can adjust around 113 standard size bricks in the lower surface area of a brick pallet. And the total number of bricks that fit in a brick pallet is 534 bricks. It is the standard measurement.

This measurement can increase or decrease depending upon the size and material of the brick. Also, there are pallets available with more surface area that can fit more bricks into the pallet.

How many bricks can a car, pickup truck, or lorry carry?

A car can carry as much as 200 bricks of approximately 4 pounds. The maximum weight-load of them is around 900 pounds, excluding the driver. So, I guess it would be a safe bet to carry 200 bricks in your car.

Pickup trucks have more loading capacity than regular cars. These trucks can carry more bricks than a car.

The loading capacity of pickup trucks is around 1000 lbs to 2000 lbs. So, these machines can load approximately 250 – 500 bricks in them. You can also carry them in smaller pallets in pickup trucks.

Lorry is the largest carrier out of these three vehicles. It can carry a massive amount of bricks and brick pallets as well.

There are different sizes of lorry available. They can carry up to 18.5 tons of load. It makes them eligible to carry around 50 – 60 pallets of bricks. Each pallet contains like 500 – 600 bricks.
